Both crashes occurred on Wednesday, July 1.
The fatal crash in Hamden in New Haven County, and the second crash with injuries occurred in Fairfield County, in Bridgeport.
According to Hamden Police, the fatal crash took place around 5:30 p.m., on State Street.
A preliminary investigation revealed that two cars were traveling southbound on State Street at a high rate of speed.
Witnesses reported that both vehicles were driving “erratically” and that they were passing other vehicles that were traveling southbound by “crossing the double yellow lines," police said.
One of the vehicles, a Toyota Corolla, which was stolen in Hamden on June 17, struck the driver of a scooter that was traveling northbound on State Street.
The operator of the scooter suffered life-threatening injuries and was transported to Yale-New Haven Hospital. He was pronounced dead at the hospital shortly thereafter.
His identity is being withheld pending the notification of his next of kin.
Moments after striking the victim, the occupants of the stolen Toyota Corolla, exited the vehicle and entered the second vehicle, described as a dark blue Honda, with a Connecticut tag AS-54198, that was driving erratically.
The occupants of the Honda were last seen traveling southbound on State Street.

The second crash took place around 5:40 p.m., at the intersection of Barnum Avenue and Willow Street in Bridgeport.
According to police, the driver of a 2003 Hyundai Sante Fe, identified as Willie Brown Jr., 68, of Bridgeport, had stopped on the eastbound side of Barnum Avenue to make a U-Turn.
As he started to make his U-Turn a scooter driven by Roland Campbell, 21, of Stamford, was traveling eastbound on Barnum Avenue, turning left onto Willow Street when the two collided
Campbell was ejected and his scooter became wedged under Brown's car.
He was transported to Bridgeport Hospital for non-life-threatening injuries and was later released.
Following his release, Campbell was arrested on an active warrant for unrelated charges.
The driver of the Hyundai was not injured.
